Box 358 Warrenville, IL 60555 Contact: Shawna Coronado FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, 7/25/2007 Shawna Coronado Sworn In As A Natural Area Commissioner! Shawna Coronado of The Casual Gardener fame was asked by the Mayor of Warrenville, David Brummel, to participate in the Natural Areas Commission. This environmental commission is evolving into a commission centered around environmental concerns – both from an aesthetic and environmentally sound perspective. If all goes as proposed the commission will be changing its title to the Warrenville Environmental Advisory Commission. Shawna and the seven member Commissioner team will work to improve upon the environment within the city of Warrenville, IL. Commission duties will include: • All duties listed in City code, Title II, 2-7-5 with regard to trees; • Coordinate all beautification projects for public and private spaces such as America in Bloom; • Sponsor and coordinate events as approved by the City Council, such as Prairie Path cleanup, Earth Day proclamation, household hazardous waste collections, electronics recycling; • Make recommendations to City Council for adoption of policies, programs and “green” initiatives to protect and enhance the environment; • Improve environmental awareness of residents through educational programs; • Seek out and recommend City application for grant opportunities to improve and promote environmental awareness and behavior Mayor Brummel swore Shawna in to the NAC July 24, 2007. She will have a three year term with the organization. Shawna continues to advocate community involvement in combination with exercise, daylight exposure and gardening as a way to improve emotional and physical health and well being.
