| THE CASUAL GARDENER, Shawna Coronado Amazing Weight Loss Progress = = = = = = = = = = = = Dear Casual Gardener, I wrote you about a month ago and asked you for help. I am overweight and want to get healthier. Your advice and help was fantastic! I have been gardening and walking outdoors every day for a month and feel better. I’ve done it come rain or shine. My yard is starting to shape up and look better, although it still needs a lot of work. I have a lot out there to keep me physical and didn’t even realize it. My wife and I have talked it over and decided to go to a counselor to help our marriage. However, the most exciting aspect of all this is my wife has started walking and gardening WITH me. It gives us something to share. I wanted to tell you how much it means to me that you care and have taken the time to help me. It’s a new beginning. I am not on a strict diet, but have started watching portions and eat more small meals versus a few very large meals every day. I have started taking vitamins and eating better. In one month I have already lost five pounds! Your advice was simple and easy to do – I can’t wait to see what happens if we keep this up for six months. I feel really good and think that being outside regularly in the garden and eating well has really changed my energy level and outlook. Thank you very much for helping us. We love you and will always read your column! Signed, No Longer As Sad and Overweight (and now we have a little garden) = = = = = = = = = = = = Dear Sad, I had tears in my eyes when I read your letter to me. It makes my heart VERY glad that I have inspired you to get out and get healthy! You should be very proud of yourself and your wife. I will include your letter in my column so others can see your incredible accomplishment. Please stick with your new lifestyle and keep me informed. I will let my readers know how you are doing. Keep up the good work! I am really proud of you! Shawna = = = = = = = = = = = = Dear Casual Gardener, Thank you, thank you, thank you for the advice you gave “Sad and Overweight” a few weeks ago. I am also overweight and unhappy. I love the outdoors and have decided to take your advice and build a garden this Fall to help me get healthy. Once it’s too cold to garden, I will continue to walk every morning. Is there a special type of music I should use in my IPOD while gardening and walking that’s inspirational? Signed, I’m-Gonna-Get-Healthy! = = = = = = = = = = = = Dear I’m-Gonna, Wow! I am so happy to hear you are getting out and getting healthy by gardening and walking! Music is a sensitive issue and enjoying music and being inspired by it is based on your own personal taste. I listen to all types of music depending on my mood. I listen to all types of music. Currently, I am the consternation of my neighbors as I have a habit of listening to very loud, pounding rock and metal music while driving in my car, gardening in my yard or just hangin’ out in my home. I sing too – loudly! Complete with arm motions, head bobs, toe tapping and hip wiggling. I’ve tried to be more sedate but just can’t help myself. Particularly early in the morning when I’m trying to wake up. My teenage daughter has told me to turn the music down before – no kidding – so there’s no accounting for MY personal taste. I’ll never be known for my shy and retiring music preferences! When in the garden I think you should use whatever music stimulates your own energy and gets you off the couch and out to have some fun. Whatever you like that helps you attain the best feeling for you to get your work done – be it relaxing or full-on energy. It could be Shakira or Vivaldi or The Rolling Stones. Whatever you enjoy – tap into it and get out there and get healthy TODAY!! By the way, be sure to wave at me if you catch me shaking my booty in the garden! I’ll also assume your not laughing AT me, you’re laughing WITH me!! (Righhhhttttt….)
